This listed historic cabinet reveals, beyond the beauty of its finely carved wooden details, a hidden secret. An ingenious internal mechanism allows concealed side doors to open when a lever is pulled. The cabinet was designed to discreetly store valuable belongings.
“I leave the amount of six million cruzeiros for the specific purpose of founding and establishing a public library in the city of Ribeirão Preto, to be located in the building on Duque de Caxias Street.” With this wish, clearly expressed in her will, Theolina Junqueira defined the future of this place, which today houses more than 20,000 titles and welcomes over 190,000 visitors each year.
